Police Return to Fine Form at Grammys

Well, there was a moment that I never thought I would see in my lifetime... A FRICKEN POLICE REUNION?!?! Un.be.lievable. The boys in black were looking and more importantly sounding damn strong as they performed their classic hit 'Roxanne.' It was so strong, in fact, that I can even forgive the little jazz-fest nonsense that they threw in mid-song for flair. Thank you gents for putting aside your respective (but well deserved) egos for your 30th anniversary. Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for tomorrow's press conference!

3. What could have been a great moment in Grammy history wasn't. The Police performed "Roxanne" as though they were severely jetlagged. With the remarkable catalog they have to choose from they tossed off the easiest of the bunch and mucked it up with a middle part that could only be considered a jazz jam if it were played by a one fingered bass player with his finger nailed to the fret and a sampler emitting one guitar chord over a drum machine. It was so disappointing. Sly Stone's zombie act last year was more exciting.

4. It shows how closed the world is to many Country fans that there is a perception that the Dixie Chicks haven't been selling albums. The new "Taking The Long Way" was certified double platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA. It is also triple platinum in Canada, double platinum in Australia, platinum in New Zealand and gold in the U.K. and Ireland. Of all albums released in 2006, Taking the Long Way was the 6th biggest selling disc last year in the U.S.

Not bad for an album that didn't sell, the single "Not Ready To Make Nice" is also a certified digital gold single yet there is a belief that the Chicks have bombed and are failures. Stick you head up out of the bushes Jethro, there's a big ol world out here.

5. They saved the best for last, The Chili Peppers. Dani California is a beyond fantasitic video that you can watch more than once. And they deserve the Grammy ("raised in Alabamy" well, never mind). The Chili Peppers are an outstanding and epic group.
Though the cultural legend Tom Petty was a close second.
