Would you believe the Who almost scrapped 'My Generation'? It's true, according to the band's mastermind, Pete Townshend.
"We recorded about 5 or 6 different versions of 'My Generation' before we got it sounding right," Townshend writes in his exclusive commentary for AOL Music on some of the band's best-loved tunes. "The final version was recorded in an overnight session, and funnily enough, we nearly didn't use the song," he says. "I wrote it in the style of the Kinks, as I wanted to get [producer] Shel Talmy interested in us. And it worked, as he came down to see us and instantly thought 'My Generation' was the one."
